Country Life and Sports Activity Area
12 Aug 2017
This year we will welcome a Sport Activity Area to the Country Life Area. Working in partnership with SP Energy Networks and Anglesey Council to offer numerous sports activities.
Once again this year the Anglesey Show will welcome the International Gundog Competition. The gundog competition on Anglesey is now recognised as the finest of its kind in Britain, and attracts many of the UK’s top sportsmen.
The competition is located off the beaten track in the country life area. The Sports & Country Life activity area has plenty of activities on offer including other dog competitions and Clay Target Shooting and this year for the first time will have the SP Energy Network/WRU Sports Arena with an opportunity to try out rugby along with various sporting activities that are available on the island.
The area is located by a signposted walkway from the showground’s main office.
The first Anglesey gundog international was run in 1994. Three years later a lake was added to the site and, with its natural undulations, Britain’s top handlers began to recognise the course as one of the best on the British circuit.
The competition is arranged by Frank Morrey. Using his field sports contacts, Frank helped build up the country activities arena at Anglesey Show.
In the lake area, a 100-seater grandstand offers views of the gundog competitions. On the first day teams from Wales, England, Ireland and Scotland will be competing Retrievers. And on the Wednesday teams will be putting their Spaniels to work.
