Anglesey is squaring up to become Wales’ premier regional agricultural show-ground.

Anglesey Agricultural Society have proposals to make the Gwalchmai showground a ‘mecca’ for major European events.

Chairman of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Alun Evans, from Bryncrug, Gwynedd, launched a new website and brochure, and confirmed it hired a marketing firm to promote the showground.

Anglesey wants to improve its marketing and last spring it signed a three-year Events Commission-funded deal with Caernarfon’s Digwyddiadau MP Events, established two and a half years ago by former actor and entertainer Mici Plwm.

With a 1700- seat events hall and parking for more than 3000 cars, showground bosses and Digwyddiadau MP Events aim to capitalise on Holyhead ferry traffic. Proposals are also being considered to turn the hall into a theatre serving the whole of Anglesey.

More ambitiously, organisers believe they can attract European events if and when commercial flights start from Valley to Cardiff and possibly Dublin.

Anglesey show bosses believe their permanent 160-acre showground just off the A55 has second-to-none facilities and transport links.

Anglesey County Show 15/16:08:06

Latest news from Anglesey agricultural society From Dan Jones, Press Officer - 01248 810160

Top fashion, equestrian skills and the British Army... these are three of the main ingredients chosen to lure the crowds to the ever-popular Anglesey County Show this August.

The army take poll position for the two days, August 15 and 16, and in a brilliant demonstration of speed, excitement and showmanship the Flying Gunners - the Royal Artillery Motor Cycle Display Team - will thrill spectators.
The riders, all fully trained soldiers based at Larkhill, Salisbury, give about 120 separate performances at different venues each year; to name but a few - the Royal Tournament, the Rhine Army Summer Show, The Edinburgh Tattoo, the National Lottery Show, Noel Edmunds House Party and Blue Peter. Their display combines breathtaking high speed double crossovers from four corners of the arena when closing speeds can reach 90mph. Amazing displays of speed and balance combine to show off the skills of these riders; The climax is a spectacular jump over four cars or more and an example of the teamwork and concentration comes as the exciting moving pyramid of the Flying Gunners moves across the arena.

Another main ring attraction this year - but on the first day only - is a display by Area 11 of the Side Saddle Association. Four riders will give a fascinating performance of horsemanship and elegance including jumping to music and a commentary which describes the riders, their horses and a history of side saddle riding and of the Association itself.

Fashion-wise the show presents Jane Davies for the third year running. The talented Holywell designer with a label synonymous with quality, innovation and exclusivity - will use a theme starting with casual day wear and building up to highly extravagant evening wear.

The Jane Davies success story continues.  She is about to produce her first television programme - Family Fashion for ITV. This follows the outcome of her brilliant work in recent years designing uniforms for the Welsh Millennium Centre and launching new collections in Dubai with swim wear collections for FHM Magazine and Sky Television.

Continuing over the last few years has been Jane Davies Cymru, a range of clothing using the national flag - and each item proudly bearing a "Made in Wales" label. Welsh-ness is the Jane Davies keynote. She says: "I believe strongly in utilising the expertise of Welsh textile manufacturers not only because of the exceptionally high quality of the products but also because I can be personally involved in overseeing sampling and production"
